Jobless claims eased to 554,000 last week from 575,000 the week before, in line with expectations. Continuing claims dipped to 4.384 mln, coming in below expectations. With the Fed already at zero and the printing presses being inked-up, day-to-day data takes on less import than it ordinarily would. The data still matters some as the new government response to the downturn is yet to come.
