Latest Reuters poll shows RBA likely to stand pat next year
- 18 of 31 economists predict rates to stay unchanged through mid-2020
- 11 of 31 economists forecast at least one hike by March 2020 (previously 23 of 38)
We started the year with some economists even sounding confident of a move in Q4 this year, before rate hike expectations continue to get pushed back to Q2 2019, and then Q3 2019. Now, it looks like no rate hikes are to even come next year for the Australian central bank.
This is developing into a familiar theme for the RBA and the aussie. You can pretty much copy-and-paste this from the start of this year and apply it to next year as well. Just add in housing market worries to that list and you're all set for the RBA outlook for 2019.
