BRUSSELS (MNI) – The European Commission rejected claims by German
newspaper Handelsblatt that heavily-indebted Greece will be given E90
billion in aid over three years, saying only the first year figure of
E30 billion has been discussed and finalised.

The German newspaper Wednesday reported that the Greek aid package
agreed by Eurozone finance ministers on Sunday could be as much as E90
billion over three years, citing European sources.

“There is only one figure and it is for the first year,” European
Commission spokesman Amadeu Tardio said on Wednesday.

He said Eurozone finance ministers had made it clear that the
programme would stretch over three years, with E30 billion offered in
the first year, but said that “no other figures are envisaged” at the
moment.

“We have no idea if the funds for this year will be used in full,
or even partially,” Tardio said.

“We still don’t even know what will happen in the first year,” he
added.
