BERLIN (MNI) – German Economics Minister Philipp Roesler said
Wednesday it was “no surprise” that today’s Eurogroup meeting has been
cancelled.

Roesler reminded that it had been always clear that a decision on a
second aid package for Greece could be made only once the report by the
troika of the EU, the ECB and the IMF had been finalized.

“The troika report is not yet available, thus, it does not make any
sense [for Eurozone finance ministers] to get together,” the minister
said.

Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker said Tuesday that Eurozone
finance ministers will merely hold a conference call on Wednesday rather
than a meeting because further technical work is needed between Greece
and official lenders.

“It has appeared that further technical work between Greece and the
troika is needed in a number of areas, including the closure of the
fiscal gap of E325 million in 2012 and the debt sustainability
analysis,” Juncker said in a press release.

Juncker added that he had not yet received the “required political
assurances” from the leaders of Greece’s coalition parties that they
support the implementation of the bailout program.
