Greece has been (mercifully) pushed off the front pages lately but given the political results in Italy, it’s worth remembering that the economy is in a deep depression and has a traditionally unstable government.

The official Centre for Planning and Economic Research today made a forecast that GDP will decline 4.1% this year after a 6.3% fall last year, and a 6.9% contraction in 2011.
