CNBC’s Simon Hobbs and I have just made a small wager: A pint of lager.
Simon thinks that if Spain ultimately needs to be bailed out that both the US and Japan will participate as part of an international rescue.
I contend that the US and Japan are already robust contributors to the European bailouts via the IMF, in which they are the top two shareholders.
Can you imagine the hue and cry in the US heartland if the US coughed up billions as part of a Spanish bailout while the states and municipalities in the US drown in deficits?
By the way, I take back everything I said about Simon previously …
