PARIS (MNI) – A strengthening of the global economy depends on the
right decisions being taken now to confront Europe’s debt crisis,
Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund,
said on Wednesday.
“If the right decisions are taken, the economy will look better at
the start of 2013 than it does at the start of 2012,” Lagarde said in an
interview with Europe 1 radio.
Lagarde reiterated that the Eurozone needed both a stronger
firewall and greater financial firepower to stop contagion from Greece
to countries like Italy and Spain.
She said that combining the resources of the European Financial
Stability Facility with those of the future European Stability Mechanism
would send a powerful positive signal to global investors.
