In 2019, Salvini looked unstoppable but the winds of political change are always blowing in Italy. His League party lost a key vote in the Emilia-Romagna region by a share of about 50-42.

The area is a stronghold for the left so it's not a big surprise but it does dampen Salvini's momentum and will give Conte's government more time to work.
