Latest consumer survey from the University of Michigan for May 2016

  • Current conditions 108.6 vs 106.5 exp. Prior 106.7
  • Expectations 87.5 vs 78.1 vs 77.6 prior
  • 1yr inflation expectations 2.5% vs 2.8% prior
  • 5yr 2.6% vs 2.5% prior

These numbers could be another kicker for the dollar. The only negative is the drop in inflation expectations and that might take some of the heat out of the headline figure.

USDJPY briefly broke through the 109.45 level to 109.56 but we're back below at 109.37. The gate may be off its hinges though.
