Comments from May's spokesman:

  • Discussions continue to build a majority to pass Brexit legislation
  • Significance of legislation can't and won't be underestimated
  • Bill means we can leave the EU by summer
  • Government wants the broadest support possible

Meanwhile, Labour has said it cannot support the Brexit legislation without an agreement.

SocGen today argues that the withdrawal bill could pave the way for May's exit:

"It was agreed after the UK cabinet meeting yesterday that the Withdrawal Agreement bill should be brought forward to early June so it can receive royal assent before the parliament summer recess in July. This could be the moment May leaves office and the process to elect a new leader gets under way."
