Good morning, afternoon or evening & welcome to Monday morning and the new month. And the response to the weekend news (ICYMI):
- Trump - Xi meeting: US agreed to no new tariffs on China goods
- Trump relents on tariffs, Huawei as US-China trade talks set for a revival
As we said when the news came out, risk getting a little bit of a boost really early, yen down:
- EUR/USD 1.1361
- USD/JPY 108.26 (USD/JPY up 35 or so points from late Friday levels).
- GBP/USD 1.2704
- USD/CHF 0.9791
- USD/CAD 1.3070 (CAD getting a wee kick along also)
- AUD/USD 0.7032 (AUD as a 'China proxy', up 15 or so points)
- NZD/USD 0..6729 (up a few tics also)
These are all early moves, so as usual the regular caveat applies:
- Monday morning market liquidity is very thin. Prices can swing around on not too much at all. Liquidity improves as more Asian centres come on online.
