Tokyo's main index closes a little lower but near the highs for the day

A late rebound in Chinese stocks and US equity futures also gave Japanese stocks a boost heading into the close. Despite a negative day, the rebound in risk appetite may help investors in Europe push through with a more upbeat tone later on. But as I mentioned earlier, sentiment is still fragile so tread with caution.
