Euro-dollar has traded for the most part of the day with a distinct bid tone climbing from its opening this morning at 1.4490 steadily through the morning to 1.4600. There was interest to buy Euros at the afternoon fixing which took it through the high so far for the year of 1.4530. The move higher was thwarted by a barrier option at 1.4600 and since the Euro has drifted back, giving back some of its gains to a current level of 1.4550.
Sterling has been pretty much the same story opening on its session low at 1.4685 and making stilted but steady progress higher to a top of 1.6590 before slipping back to the current level of 1.6535.
Dollar-yen opened here at 92.50 and slipped lower helped by stop losses taking the layered bids out from 91.85 to a low of 91.60. The dollar regained ground this afternoon pulling back to 92.15.
Dollar-Canada fell from 1.0805 to 1.0760 on the better than expected housing starts. The currency then remained range bound for most of the day until later in the day when it climbed to 1.0825 with the US dollar recovery.
Aussie dollar opened at 0.8590 eased higher to 0.8665 before slipping this afternoon to current level of 0.8615.
Having opened at 0.7010 a barrier option was taken out at 0.7000 in the New Zealand dollar and since then it has continued lower to a session low of 0.6945.
Gold opened at 993.70 and was initially buoyed by the weak dollar making a high of 1002.20 before losing its drive and falling back to a low of 987.00.
