Negative signs today

The European major stock indices are ending with negative signs. The UK FTSE was the dog (once again). The stock market does not take well to the sharply higher GBP as a result of the more hawkish BOE/Carney.

  • German DAX fell -0.1%
  • France' Cac index fell -0.3%
  • UK FTSE fell -1.1%
  • Spain's Ibex fell -0.6%
  • Italy's FTSE MIB fell -0.23%
  • Portugal's PSI20 was unchanged.

For the week, the UK FTSE was the worst performer and the only index in the red:

  • Germany rose 1.75%
  • France rose 1.96%
  • UK fell -2.2%
  • Spain rose 1.85%
  • Italy rose 2.08%
  • Portugal rose 1.96%

In the European debt markets today, 10 year yields rose modestly:

  • Germany 0.432%, +2 basis points
  • France 0.710%, +1.2 basis points
  • UK 1.307%, +7.8 basis points
  • Spain 1.609%, unchanged
  • Italy 2.079%, +2 basis points
  • Portugal 2.806%, +1 basis point
  • Greece 5.437%, +2.2 basis points
