Nasdaq closes higher. Dow also up.
The US stock market is ending the day mixed.
- The S&P index is the laggard. It is closing the day down -3.21 points or -0.15%/
- The NASDAQ composite index rebounded modestly in trading today. It is closing up 28.317 points or +0.54%. This is despite the FANGS ending down once again (Facebook is down -1.45%, Amazon is down -0.43%, Netflix is down -0.55% and Google down -1.12%). All are traded on the Nasdaq composite index.
- The Dow closed at record highs up 39.78 points or +0.21%
For the week:
- The S&P index rose 3.8%
- The NASDAQ composite index rose 3.78%
- The Dow industrial average increase the most, rising by 5.36%
How are the major indices doing for the year (2016)
- The S&P index is up 5.9%
- The NASDAQ composite index is up 4.59%
- The Dow industrial average is leading the way at +8.16%
The US bond market was closed today in observance of Veterans Day. Nevertheless for the week yields were up strongly:
- 2 year yields rose by 12 basis points for the week. This was the largest increase since May
- 5-year note yields rose 31 basis points; the largest increase since June 2013
- 10 year note yield rose 36 basis points for the week. This was also the largest increase since June 2013
- 30 year bond yield rose 38 basis points which was the largest increase since January 2009.the
