Latest data released by Markit - 1 October 2020

After a bit of a dip in August, Spanish factory activity picks up a little but in general remains more sluggish after the recovery since April. Markit notes that:

"Whilst there was a return to growth in September, the latest data suggests the manufacturing sector continues to struggle to regain meaningful traction."

Amid the surge in virus cases across the region, the PMI readings today should reaffirm a two-pace recovery whereby manufacturing is seen more steady while services are lagging behind - similar to what the initial set of prints suggested.
