The latest headline on Congress is from Rep. Capito: Boehner tells House Republicans that reports he will rely on Democratic votes to pass debt limit are inaccurate.

Stocks don’t like the sound of that but it’s some double-talk from Boehner to appease his people after telling the opposite to Wall Street.

The problem for Republicans is that they’re not getting anywhere with the budget and the public is generally blaming them for a pointless shutdown. If Obama doesn’t give any concessions, they may try to play a game of chicken with the debt ceiling.

Look for a flurry of late-day trading today, market watchers will want to read every last piece of news from Capitol Hill before placing bets one way or the other.
