A big mistake for the Conservative party
I understand the argument for calling an election. There's a deadlock in everything in the UK and the way to break a deadlock is always an election.
That said, from the Conservative perspective there is hardly any upside to calling an election even with the party hopelessly divided internally. The next card they play will be a leadership change and from there they need to hope that some kind of consensus candidate emerges and he/she performs a miracle.
