The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said 1% of companies had successfully applied for the government's Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme

  • 8% have been unsuccessful
  • 7% said they had made use of government grants for small businesses, 14% said they had been unsuccessful

Reuters carry the report but note that since April 2 the rules have been rel;axed so the numbers are expected to improve

Time is of the essence:

  • The companies that had so far failed to access government finance cited complexity and slow response times.
  • The BCC said 16% of companies had less than a month's worth of cash reserves left, while 6% had run out entirely.
