Amended motion removed the time constraint

The original vote was supposed to be one that would block a no-deal Brexit through March 29 but an amendment was narrowly passed that made it indefinite and that threw everything into chaos.

What was supposed to be a free vote was whipped. That's going to have some repercussion with the ERG now finding themselves in an untenable spot. There is talk about resignations from cabinet.

Update: Sarah Newton has resigned from cabinet.

Given the breakdown of votes, there were plenty of abstentions and that's going to be an issue.

May says "the House today has provided a clear majority against leaving the EU without a deal." However she says the "default in the law is that the UK will leave the EU without a deal unless something else is agreed."
