The Nasdaq is up. The S&P and Dow is down

The major stock indices are ending the day mixed.

  • The S&P is ending down -6.43 points or -0.24% at 2721.33. The price continued to close above the 100 day MA this week, but it is not running. The 100 day MA comes in at 2710.86. The price has closed above the MA for 12 straight day with the highs limited to 2742 over that period (double top).
  • The Nasdaq is ending the day higher by 9.43 points or +0.13% at 7433.86.
  • The Dow is ending down -58.67 points or -0.24% at 24753.09.

For the week, the major indices are closing with modest gains:

  • The S&P is ending up 0.31%
  • The Nasdaq is the best performer up 1.08%
  • The Dow is up a modest 0.15%

For the week, the Nasdaq's gain of 1.08% for the week was the best performer. In fact, the US gains led the major global indices (see the charts below).

The dogs this week were Italy's FTSE MIB. The coalition concerns have investors fleeing their bond and stock markets. Spain's Ibex fell 2.83% and Japan's Nikkei fell -2.09%.
