WASHINGTON (MNI) – House Speaker John Boehner offered some
conciliatory words Tuesday night, saying House Republicans “stand
ready to work with any willing partner” to address the nation’s

But in remarks at a House Republican campaign event after the GOP
retained its majority in the House, Boehner said the elections provide
“no mandate” to increase taxes.

Boehner said he stands ready to work with members of both parties
to find solutions.

“What Americans want are solutions that will ease the burdens on
small businesses, bring jobs home and let our economy grow,” Boehner

In the final weeks of the campaign, Boehner said that Republicans
will resist any Democratic proposal to increase taxes.

It seems likely that President Obama will meet with congressional
leaders in the next week or so to discuss the fiscal cliff impasse.
