The White House says Obama plans to sign legislation imposing sanctions on certain Venezuelan government officials.
Sanctioning officials is a tough way to make any headway. In Russia, it’s been a badge of honor and top politicians are so wealthy that it’s a minor inconvenience at best. But it could signal that Obama is making a geopolitical play and this is just the start.
Venezuela has nowhere near the government/military power to fall back on that Putin does.
