At 2330GMT we get CPI data out of Japan. The data is broken into a number of measures.

National CPI (March) y/y:

  • Prior was -0.7%
  • Expected is -0.8%

National CPI excluding fresh food (March) y/y (in Japan, this is the ‘core’ measure of inflation)

  • Prior was -0.3%
  • Expected is -0.4%

National CPI excluding food and energy (March) y/y

  • Prior was -0.9%
  • Expected is -0.8%

With the data release is also April figures for inflation in Tokyo. the figures for Tokyo are processed more quickly, so the Tokyo figures are more recent data.

Tokyo CPI (April) y/y

  • Prior was -1.0%
  • Expected is -0.8%

Tokyo CPI excluding fresh food (April) y/y

  • Prior was -0.5%
  • Expected is -0.4%

Tokyo CPI excluding food and energy (April) y/y

  • Prior was -0.8%
  • Expected is -0.7%
