331,000 counterfeit bank notes were removed from circulation in the first half of 2014, the ECB reported today. 81% of notes taken out the system were €20 & €50 notes.
The Bundesbank also issued a statement saying that they had taken out 24,623 notes in the same period, up 27%
The ECB said there were over 16bn genuine notes in circulation over that period.
It seems like a small amount but they don’t give the figures of how many they think are floating around the system.
