European ministers weighing in on the Brexit rhetoric ahead tomorrow's summit

  • But there isn't enough for a compromise just yet (Austria's EU minister)
  • There is a clear will to get a Brexit deal (Germany's EU minister)
  • But EU market must be protected (Germany's EU minister)
  • Need a watertight Irish backstop (Germany's EU minister)

The comments here aren't really offering much of anything new but they're still sounding relatively optimistic that we will eventually converge towards a deal at the end of the day. But we'll still have to wait and see how discussions go tomorrow for a clearer picture.

Even so, the pound continues to rally on the day as cable now moves towards the 1.3200 handle after breaking the 100-hour MA. Inadvertently, it's helping to push the euro up as well with EUR/USD moving towards a test of the 1.1600 handle once again.
