BBC's political editor, Laura Kuenssberg, says the 'rumour mill is right'

The report was out overnight that a couple of Labour backbenchers were considering to break away from the party over disagreement with the way the party's leadership is handling Brexit and the anti-Semitism row.

And now it is believed that there will be an event mid-morning in the UK on the 'future of British politics', which suggests that we will be seeing a group of Labour MPs leaving. So far, the rumour is that we'll see about four resignations to come later this morning.

As for what this means for the shape of UK politics, it could all amount to nothing in the end but it could also suggest a real threat that Brexit is starting to crack the political structure/framework in a more significant manner.

Update: ITV political correspondent, Paul Brand, now tweets that the announcement will take place at 1000 GMT.
