Corbyn comments lift pound

Corbyn appears to support a second referendum on Brexit in a big shift for the opposition leader. At the same time, he said he will back an amendment to take a 'no deal' Brexit off the table.

What he exactly said was that he would support an amendment that supports a "public vote to prevent a damaging Tory Brexit."

This is a bit of a gamble because many Labour MPs were elected in areas supporting 'leave'. It could be a bid to squeeze May and spark some kind of breakdown among the Conservatives. You have to believe he wants an election more than ever after 7 MPs quit on him last week to form the Independent Group.

Cable jumped to 1.3100 but has given back 25 pips. I think the idea outcome is accepting a divorce deal like the one that's on the table but it just looks like a bridge too far. Corbyn could have swung some support behind May but another referendum would just set up more months of acrimony and I'm not sure a 'remain' vote would settle it.
