–CIPS UK April Construction Rises To 58.2 Versus 53.1 In March
LONDON (MNI) – UK construction sector activity surged in April,
growing at its fastest pace since September 2007, but employment in the
sector is still continuing to decline.
The April Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index spiked to 58.2
from 53.1 in March. CIPS said there were rising volumes of new orders,
and input cost inflation rose to its highest level since August 2008.
The sector is continuing to shed labour, but jobs were cut at their
slowest pace for 20 months in April, CIPS said.
“We are yet to turn the corner and see an end to the 23 months of
relentless job cuts,” David Noble, Chief Executive Officer at CIPS,
said.
