Something doesn't square here

Trump has preannounced that he will be attacking Syria.

He tweeted today:

"Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!' You shouldn't be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!"

What's odd is that Trump has repeatedly criticized leaders for failing to use the element of surprise.

Of course, it could just be another example of a politician saying one thing and doing another but it's especially striking this time. It might just be a case of John Bolton whispering in his ear.

The other question is what to buy if the missiles fly. I talked about buying some gold yesterday and it's up $13 today. I think the reaction next depends on what kind of attack the US launches and how aggressively Russia responds.
