No offence Greece but we're all sick to the back teeth of this story. So should they be given the boot?
Greece is a lot like a losing trade. Sometimes you look at a trade and think, you know what, my stop is in place but I'm just not liking it so I'm going to bail now?
Greece is at that point (it's been at that point from day one). We started this morning with positive headlines from the Deej that a deal could be done by next week, then Junk's and the IMF come out and stamp all over that
Without going too deep, the Greek people have suffered a lot and with no offence meant, they have been a part of the problem too, be it the minority or majority. That said the bigger part of the problem has been the buffoons who were running the country. They are the ones who went cap in hand and made the grand promises that they couldn't keep but the landscape is different now.
It's not 2012 and it's not the whole Eurozone project that's being questioned. Greece asked for help and got it. They've asked and asked and asked and got it. Billions and billions have been poured into the bottomless pit.
While the majority of Greeks want to stay in the Eurozone (and remember that a full exit isn't on the cards) they would probably do better on their own, if they can work together.
From Europe's point of view this trade is just going from bad to worse and someone needs to have the bollocks to say it's time to bail. It makes sense to do so on nearly every front except the political one as no leader wants to be the one who failed and that goes for both sides. To me that's at the very crux of all these negotiations. The fear of failure. No euro or Greek leader wants that on his cv.
As for the costs? Creditors are already waiting 50 years to be paid back so where's the downside if that's the worst they are stuck with?
Maybe we'll get a deal and maybe we won't but someone needs to stand up and make a decision and ask the question one last time. Deal or no deal?
