Quiet start in early trades

  • German DAX futures flat
  • French CAC 40 futures +0.1%
  • UK FTSE futures +0.2%

There isn't much to be too optimistic about as we begin European trading, with global economic headwinds continuing to creep about. Yesterday's earnings in the US failed to really liven up the risk mood and futures are mostly trading near flat levels today, mirroring the sentiment in Europe so far.

The key release today that will help to give markets more direction will be the US Q1 GDP report. Until then, I would expect a quieter session in the European morning. USD/JPY holds at 111.69 currently, a tad higher but nothing too notable with currencies still largely trapped in narrow ranges as we begin the session.
