BERLIN (MNI) – A majority of Germans oppose the idea of introducing
joint eurobonds in the Eurozone even if member states agree on forming a
fiscal union, according to a survey released Friday.
Some 51% of those surveyed said they were against eurobonds
regardless of whether a joint European fiscal policy was achieved or
not. Some 24% would agree to eurobonds if a fiscal union were in place,
while some 12% were generally in favor of joint bond issuances in the
Eurozone.
Some 61% said they opposed giving Eurozone member states which
receive aid from the European bailout fund more time to reach their
deficit goals. Some 31% would grant those countries more time.
The representative poll by Forschungsgruppe Wahlen — commissioned
by German public television ZDF — surveyed 1,255 respondents from July
10 to 12.
