BERLIN (MNI) – Germany’s free market-orientated FDP party on
Tuesday again made clear that it has no intention of leaving the
coalition with Chancellor Angela Merkel’s center-right CDU/CSU bloc.

FDP parliamentary leader Rainer Bruederle said the state of the
coalition is “good.” Speaking ahead of a meeting of the FDP
parliamentary group, he said there was “excellent collaboration” with
the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.

The FDP’s electoral support has diminished dramatically since it
entered the government in 2009. On Sunday it suffered another crushing
defeat in a regional ballot, mustering only 1.8% of the votes in
elections in the city-state of Berlin.

FDP party leader Philipp Roesler, who is also economics minister,
has clashed with Chancellor Merkel over his remarks that the insolvency
of Greece should no longer be a taboo. This had sparked speculation that
the coalition could break apart.
