TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received by the 50
largest contractors in Japan rose 8.7% in August from a year earlier to
Y824.7 billion, a third straight rise, the Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Friday.
The August reading followed a 8.0% increase in July, a 4.6% rise in
June and a 0.9% drop in May.
The breakdown for the latest month follows:
— Domestic private sector: +2.4% y/y at Y537.3 billion, the first
rise in three months.
— Public sector: +40.3% y/y at Y224.6 billion, eighth straight
rise,.
— Overseas: -42.9% y/y at Y22.8 billion, a fifth straight fall.
