TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received by the 50
largest contractors in Japan rose 6.0% in June from a year earlier to
Y828.0 billion, the third straight year-on-year gain, the Ministry of
Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Friday.
The June reading followed gains of 25.5% in May and 31.4% in April.
The breakdown for the latest month follows (on-year changes in the
previous month in parentheses):
— Domestic private sector: +13.1% y/y at Y619.4 billion (vs.
+20.2% in May), a third straight y/y rise.
— Public sector: -8.0% y/y at Y147.1 billion (vs. +51.6% in May),
the first fall in three months.
— Overseas: +7.2% at Y25.9 billion (vs. +67.3% in May).
