Marine Le Pen, leader of France National and modern-day Joan of Arc ( argues AEP in yesterday’s Telegraph) is rapidly becoming a real force in the French political landscape.
In a by-election a week ago her party secured 46% of the vote, beating the ruling Socialists in their own back-yard and is now on a roll, running neck and neck in the polls with the Socialists and Gaullists.
As in all times of austerity voters turn to extremes ( witness the rise of UKIP over here ) and Le Pen has immediate euro-exit firmly in her sights if she seizes power
The euro ceases to exist the moment that France leaves, and that is our incredible strength. What are they going to do, send in tanks?
I cannot imagine running economic policy without full control over our own money
The euro blocks all economic decisions. France is not a country that can accept tutelage from Brussels
