FRANKFURT (MNI) – Luxembourg has nominated Gaston Reinesch as its
new central bank governor, the government announced after a cabinet
meeting Friday.
Reinesch’s appointment will take effect on January 1, 2013, the
government said in a statement. He replaces Yves Mersch, who will join
the European Central Bank’s Executive Board on December 15 after
political haggling that had left central bank’s board one member short
for half a year.
Reinesch, who is director general at the Luxembourg Finance
Ministry, had been widely expected to succeed Mersch.
