NEW YORK (MNI) – Online recruitment activity among MNI’s sample of
top U.S. employers declined in the Oct. 20 week, to a -3.4 diffusion
reading following a very strong 11.4 in the prior week.

A negative reading indicates that a greater share of the 500
sampled companies decreased their online recruitment in the week than
increased recruitment.

The latest decline slows the upward trend for the four-week average
which, still in the positive column at 2.2, is still pointing to growth
in the recruitment market.

The median weekly decrease in job postings among the 500 companies
sampled during the Oct. 20 week is -0.25%.

Openings are especially down at professional & business service
providers with openings also down at manufacturing and wholesale firms.

Retailers are posting more openings following two straight
declines.

Job openings in the week total 260,642, or 1.1% of the 23.5 million
U.S. workers covered in the MNI sample.

MNI’s indicator tracks individual job listings on a weekly basis
from a sample of 500 of the nation’s largest employers.

Editor’s Note: MNI compiles its job openings indicator by measuring
the number of job postings in career sections of company websites.
