Earlier: Japan govmt 20tln yen stimulus headline crossing the wires
And, even before that:
- Japanese government considering 20 trillion yen stimulus
More now (via Reuters, citing 3 "sources involved in the process said on Thursday"):
- Japanese government is preparing a package of economic stimulus measures totalling $190 billion or more
- Though actual government spending is likely to be less than half that amount
- The package will have a headline figure of at least 20 trillion yen
- The package could expand, the sources said, during negotiations between the parties in Abe's ruling coalition before his cabinet approves the measures on Aug. 2.
To the extent that the dribbling out of news of more stimulus on the way since the Japanese half upper house election in early July has impacted to weaken the yen, kudos to the Japanese authorities. Job done.
Can't help but think this'll end in tears though..
