Kim Jong Un spoke during the annual New Year's address to North Korean citizens
In his speech, Kim was quoted in saying that Pyongyang has completed its nuclear weapons program and that it could reach any point in the continental US. He then called for Washington to acknowledge the reality that North Korea had weapons that could deter any military attack from the US.
In last year's speech, Kim mentioned that North Korea were preparing to test its first ever ICBM launch - which they subsequently did during two tests in July and one test in November.
First day of the new year, but same old story it seems. Trump. Russian involvement in presidential elections. North Korea. Missile threats. Feels like we did this all already, haven't we?
