Treasury Secretary Paulson says he will press ahead to try and find a compromise so the bailout package can pass, stating “we have much work to do and this is much too important to let fail.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi meanwhile was in defiant mood, saying “what happened today cannot stand” adding “we must move forward and I hope the markets will take that message.” Unfortunately for the good lady I don’t think a 778 point fall in the dow shows the markets are willing to give the politicians the benefit of the doubt. They want action not words. Unfortunately things have turned bitterly partisan today, with a lot of finger pointing and accusations flying back and forth. A compromise isn’t going to come easy. The House is set to reconvene Thursday.
