–One Had Been Mulled But Never Scheduled

BRUSSELS (MNI) – EU finance ministers will not hold a meeting
before national leaders arrive for a summit here Wednesday, a spokesman
for the Polish EU presidency said.

Instead European finance ministers will continue their work once
leaders have sealed a deal on a package of measures to restore
confidence in Eurozone government debt and banks. Finance ministers had
discussed the possibility of a meeting on Wednesday morning but no
decision had been made until now.

EU officials have emphasised the interconnectedness of the
decisions that must be taken, declining, for example, to finalise a deal
on bank recapitalisation before other problems such as the restructuring
of Greek debt are agreed.

All 27 EU leaders will meet Wednesday about 1500 GMT/1100 EDT
before a working dinner of the 17 Eurozone leaders at 1715 GMT/1315 EDT.
