An MIT survey said about 14% of US manufacturing companies have definite plans to bring production back to the US from abroad, according to the WSJ.

Among the main reasons cited for reshoring: a desire to get products to market faster and respond rapidly to customer orders; savings from reduced transportation and warehousing; improved quality and protection of intellectual property.

A separate survey in February showed 37% of surveyed companies were “actively considering” it.

Today’s Philly Fed was discouraging but eventually manufacturing jobs will increase. The question is: how much will they pay?
