Saudi's may say it was an interrogation gone wrong

CNN's chief international correspondent reports that Saudi Arabia may admit it killed Jamal Khashoggi at the Turkish consulate.

"According to two sources, the Saudis are preparing a report that will acknowledge Jamal Khashoggi's death was the result of an interrogation that went wrong, one that was intended to lead to his abduction from Turkey," according to Clarissa Ward and Tim Lister.

Further the report will blame the interrogators.

"One source says the report will likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency and that those involved will be held responsible."

I'm not sure how admitting it is going to improve things but it sounds like somebody is about to be the fall guy.

Update: A second report -- now from the New York Times -- is confirming the story, citing 'a person familiar with the Saudi plans'.

"The person said Prince Mohammed had approved an interrogation or rendition of Mr. Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia. But, he said, the Saudi intelligence official was tragically incompetent as he eagerly sought to prove himself in secretive operations."

So they're going to go with the line that their torture-guy got a bit too crazy? That's a bold move, lets see if it pays off.
