Details of the September 2015 UK construction output data report 13 November 2015

  • Prior -1.3%. Revised to -0.6%
  • -1.6% vs -0.3% exp y/y. Prior -4.3%. Revised to -3.4%
  • Q3 output -2.2% q/q. Unchanged on the estimates used for the prelim GDP. Q2 was 1.4%
  • Q3 housing -4.3%. Biggest fall since Q2 2012

Overall Q3 construction will take 0.13 percentage points off of the Q3 GDP numbers say the ONS

Despite the quarterly numbers looking soft total new housing rose 1.0% in Sep, while public housing rose 4.4%. They were both still lower on last year by 3.9% and 23.4% respectively

Infrastructure was down 6.2% but is up 23.5% y/y

We're a long long way from the heady heights of 2014 but that was a particularly strong period. Construction still remains buoyant as sighted in the PMI but it's no surprise to see some of that strength wane. If we see a prolonged period of negativity then that will be the time to worry
