We covered this yesterday, and reader Lilac alluded to it as a potential post-election outcome here but in the wake of Steinbruck going the SPD have agreed to talk to Merkel and the CDU.
No promises from them but hey, it’s a start.
Says the FT
Sigmar Gabriel, party chairman, said the 200 top party members and officials agreed by an overwhelming majority – with only five votes against – to go ahead with the talks, but on condition that any final deal must be approved by a party referendum.
