WASHINGTON (MNI) – The following is a summary of the July U.S.
sales performance of select auto manufacturers announced Wednesday:
* With 100% reported, U.S. car sales in July were running at
366,560 without seasonal adjustment, 381,277 seasonally adjusted, and an
adjusted annual rate of 4.58 million. Light truck sales, at 99.3%
reported, were projected to come in at an unadjusted 507,468 and
seasonally adjusted were 516,139, annualized adjusted 6.19 million.
* General Motors Co. Wednesday reported July U.S. sales of
201,237 vehicles, down 6% compared with a year ago. Sales to retail
customers declined 3%. Sales to rental fleet customers declined 41%, in
line with the company’s previous guidance. GM’s combined retail sales of
mini- , small, and compact cars were up 41% year over year. Retail
passenger car sales in total were up 3%, retail crossover sales were up
2% and retail truck sales were down 12%.
* Ford Motor Company’s U.S. retail sales increased 2% in July
versus year-ago levels, driven by strong retail customer demand for
fuel-efficient vehicles. Overall, Ford Motor Company sales were down 4%
in July due to lower fleet sales. Fleet sales were down 16%.
* Chrysler Group Wednesday reported U.S. sales of 126,089 units,
a 13% increase compared with sales in July 2011 (112,026 units), and the
group’s best July sales since 2007. The Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram
Truck, and FIAT brands each posted sales increases in July compared with
the same month a year ago. Chrysler Group recorded its 28th-consecutive
month of year-over-year sales gains in July. The Chrysler brand led the
way with its 35% sales gain, the largest percentage increase of any
Chrysler Group brand in July. Chrysler Group finished the month with a
65-days supply of inventory (341,699 units).
* Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A Wednesday reported July 2012 sales
results of 164,898 units, an increase of 36.6% compared to the same
period last year on a daily selling rate basis. The Toyota Division
posted July total sales of 146,663 units, an increase of 36.7 percent on
a DSR basis from July 2011. Toyota Division passenger cars recorded
combined monthly sales of 80,061 units, up 33.2% from July 2011. Toyota
Division light trucks recorded July sales of 66,602 units, an increase
of 18.6% compared to the same month last year.
* Nissan North America Wednesday reported July U.S. sales of
98,341 units versus 84,601 units a year earlier, up 16.2%. Nissan
Division sales increased 12.3% for the month at 86,722 units. Sales of
Infiniti vehicles were up 56.8% over the prior year, to 11,619 units.
* American Honda Wednesday reported July 2012 U.S. sales of
116,944 units, an increase of 45.3% compared with July 2011. The Honda
Division posted July 2012 sales of 104,119 units, an increase of 46.4%
compared with July 2011. Acura’s U.S. July sales of 12,825 units
increased 36.4% compared with July 2011.
* Hyundai Motor America announced an all-time July sales record
of 62,021 units, up 4% over last year’s all-time July record and up
9.5%, year-to-date.
* Mazda North American Operations Wednesday reported July U.S.
sales of 19,318 vehicles, representing a decrease of 7.0% versus last
year. Year-to-date sales through July are up 13.9% versus last year,
with 163,115 vehicles sold.
* American Suzuki Motor Corporation Wednesday reported July 2012
sales of 2,266 units. Grand Vitara saw a 23% increase over July 2011 and
continues a steady climb year over year, along with SX4s.
* The BMW Group in the U.S. reported July sales of 27,152
vehicles, an increase of 4% from the 26,120 vehicles sold in the same
month a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW Group is up 9.5% on sales of 185,715
in the first seven months of 2012 compared to 169,641 in the same period
in 2011.
* Porsche Cars North America, Wednesday announced July 2012
sales of 2,803 vehicles. This compares to 2,768 vehicles sold last July,
for an increase of one percent. For the year, Porsche has sold 19,253
cars in the U.S., a 5% increase over last year’s sales of 18,310.
* Kia Motors America’s growth continued last month with
best-ever July sales of 48,074 units, a 5.6% increase over the same
period last year. KMA’s year-to-date sales are up 15.9% over 2011.
* Subaru of America Wednesday reported record sales for the
month of July of 25,183 vehicles, a 16% increase over July 2011. The
company also reported year-to-date sales of 189,487 – a 23% increase
over prior year.
* Mitsubishi Motors North America Wednesday reported July 2012
sales of 4,194 units, down 47.4% compared to July 2011.
