For now, Tokyo area data to getting on with.
Tokyo CPI 0.4% y/y
- expected 0.2%, prior was 0.3%
Tokyo CPI excluding Fresh Food 1.1% y/y
- expected 0.9%, prior was 0.9%
Tokyo CPI excluding Food, Energy 0.7% y/y (reminder this measure the closest to the US 'core' CPI)
- expected 0.6%, prior was 0.6%
The BOJ will be happier with these results … not happy outright just a little encouraged by CPI higher than priors and higher than expected. The Tokyo area CPI serves as a guide to nationwide CPI. Its not a locked on result though.Nationwide data for January is in 3 weeks,
