UK parliament gives itself power to vote on Brexit options in Dec 11 vote fails

May loses another vote

The UK government was defeated in parliament and lawmakers voted to give parliament more power over the next Brexit steps if Theresa May's Brexit deal is defeated on Dec 11.

The vote was 312-299.

The result is that there would be a meaningful vote on a no-deal scenario. The pound likes this news and it's back above 1.2702.

The thinking is that this would give parliament the ability to avoid a no-deal Brexit, or something softer than a pure, hard Brexit.
